Our Charity 2018

DIABETES CARE FOR CHILDREN

This year our efforts will be put towards raising as much money as possible through our events for Diabetes Care for Children at Hywel Dda Health Board. Glangwili hospital in Carmarthen provides excellent support and care for children who have Type 1 Diabetes. Want to know more about Type 1 Diabetes then take a look at this video clip.

As in 2017 we have a close family connection with our nephew Joseff having Type 1 Diabetes – this is his story :

My name is Joseff Reynolds and I am 9 years old. Just after my 2nd birthday, on the 20th December 2010, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. This means I can’t produce my own insulin and so have to rely on artificial insulin. Being diabetic means it’s really important that I monitor what I eat and keep a close eye on my blood glucose levels. To do this I have to test my blood sugars at least 7 times a day and calculate the carbohydrate content of everything I eat. It feels like a full time job sometime, but having Type 1 diabetes doesn’t mean I can’t lead a near normal life. I play several team sports and love to cycle and swim; and (apart from the diabetes) I am fit, healthy and active. Controlling my blood glucose levels is a lot of work but I have the help of my family, school and local children’s diabetes centre. Without their help I wouldn’t be able to do all the things I love such as playing rugby, football and cricket! This is why this year I will be supporting Healthy Life Activities to raise funds for the Hywel Dda Children’s Diabetes Care.
